The Winners [1997]
Original
Résumé Philippe is searching for the meaning of life, for a job and for a girlfriend. Unfortunately, he is surrounded by people who claim they know the key to success. His friends are unable to tolerate
failure, so they try to convince Philippe that he too can be a winner, simply by changing
his attitude. Slowly but surely, the pressure becomes unbearable. Funny and cruel, moving and biting, this play deals with our fiercely individualistic society's obsession with success. Extrait « STÉPHANE: Christ! (He takes a big sip of beer. He stands up.) Do you want to know what your problem is? You're soft. Things weren't going well in your life, then they started going a bit better, and what did you do? You sat down on your ass, Christ! Never be satisfied with what life gives you. Always ask for more! Always! / PHILIPPE: I didn't do anything to make her leave. I don't get it. / STÉPHANE: She must have thought you didn't love her. / PHILIPPE: I told her I loved her once. It didn't get me anywhere. / STÉPHANE: You should have kept telling her all the time. When a woman's indifferent you just have to repeat over and over everyday that you're really in love with her. It's like banging on a nail. play to the next." Raymond Bertin, Voir, May 16, 1996, and in Montreal in 1998 before touring Québec. |
