The Ventriloquist [2003]
(Talonbooks, 2006)
Original
Résumé A ventriloquist, through a puppet representing a teenager, talks about a dysfunctional family which manages to spoil a birthday party. For her sixteenth birthday, Gaby has received a pen. Everything she writes with it becomes true. Her main goal was to write "the most beautiful love story in the world", but her brother stole the magic pen… As an adult, Gaby now has to endure Doctor Limestone's cruel therapy as he tries to force her to finish her story. Extrait « DOCTOR LIMESTONE : You know, there are people who manipulate time on their watches […] in order to align true with false, the good with the bad. / GABY : […] Since beginning to write the most beautiful novel in the world, cleanliness becomes secondary. […] I no longer have interest in my class-mates whom I consider inferior. Even my professors seem like midgets or marionettes. […] I pity them. They have no idea who is really sitting silently in front of them, impatient to leave their world of banalities and platitudes to regain the vertigo of creation. » Revue de presse « A brilliantly constructed play that breaks through theatrical convention. » Le Soleil&r
« This is the best new Quebec play in many years. » Robert Lévesque, CBC Radio-Canada |
