Coma unplugged [2009]
Original
Résumé Daniel Martin, a humour columnist for the local daily, is plunged into a deep coma following an accident. Or was it an accident? Between reality and dream, between the man he was and the man he wants to be, Daniel takes stock of his life. This hit comedy probes our society's desire to laugh at all costs. Extrait « Marjorie appears and stands in front of Daniel. DANIEL : We could almost kiss… / MARJORIE : These sweet watering cans just came in, I thought it would be better than your old one. (Beat. Looks around.) I'd hoped it would be less… / DANIEL : It's fine. The unpacking's a little slow but, apart from that, everything's under control. We were supposed to grow old together... I used to get hard just looking at you. When we made love, we set the world on fire. And then nothing. Nothing. / MARJORIE : I told myself it'll come back, it's just a phase. All my friends told me it's just a phase. They told me that sometimes affection ... Sure, affection, affection's great but, after a while, affection… / DANIEL :... is about as exciting as elevator music. / MARJORIE : I was always saying I was too tired to make love. I just couldn't keep lying to you. And I wanted... it was as if our relationship had become... I couldn't take your dark side anymore. / DANIEL : My dark side? What is this, Star Wars? Ok, granted I'm not always like dooby doo down down like Neil Sedaka. / MARJORIE : No, mostly you're Mozart's requiem. It's strange, but there's a fine line between desire and repulsion. Something excites you and then, suddenly, without knowing why - / DANIEL : It's like falling asleep in a little town in Tuscany in September and waking up in a strip mall in Scarborough in March. / MARJORIE : You always find the exact words, it gets… / DANIEL : Irritating, grating, exasperating, infuriating? / MARJORIE : Are you taking your Omega 3? » |
