Résumé Montana, a mouse approaching the end of her life, feels the urge to accomplish something extraordinary before dying. Her friend, Fanny Meadows, a young mouse who values friendship more than anything else, decides to accompany her. Together they strike out across the Western prairies
and head south. In the course of their adventures, they meet Harry, the Texas field mouse, and battle many foes. Their journey becomes a quest for the meaning of death, fear, friendship and separation.
Balade pour Fannie et Carcassonne was commissioned by Théâtre des Confettis who wished to
stage, in a Western setting, characters inspired by Don Quixote and Sancho Panza. In this, her first play for children, the author relates an initiatory journey in the form of a "road-play." The original
production toured Québec, France and Switzerland, while the English-language production
successfully toured Western Canada and was presented at international children's festivals held in St. Albert (Edmonton), Saskatoon and London (Ontario).
