How does a woman deal with loneliness? The play is set in 1918, time of great migration on the Canadian prairies. Françoise, visiting Saskatchewan from Quebec, falls in love and marries Bernard, also a Quebecois. An unsuccessful farmer, Bernard reinvents himself as an assimilated, Protestant revivalist preacher. Françoise thus loses everything: her community, her language, her religion. She turns to the Blessed Virgin and claims to see her in visions. The story is told in flashbacks in a psychiatric hospital. Is Françoise crazy, lonely or a true visionary?
